| About Playwell's Japanese Wooden Weapons We pride ourselves in taking our time to produce traditional, no-nonsense, Japanese wooden weapons that are well-balanced, perfectly weighted, and strong. These oak woods are cut into large planks that are then dried in the sun for three to six months. Next, only those planks that pass the craftsman's discerning eye are cut into smaller planks which are then dried in the sun for two more months. Afterwards, the craftsman selects only the best pieces of wood out of the lot and places them in a special dryer for two weeks. Because moisture greatly inhibits the integrity of wooden weapons, these pieces are processed before the shaping procedure begins. In order to provide consistency, a shaping machine is used first to determine the length, width, and general shape of the weapon. After that, a twelve-step sanding process is carried out entirely by hand, then later the weapon is polished and lacquered. Now you know why Playwell's Japanese wooden weapons are outstanding. |
